Events

I have big plans for 2012! I’d love to meet blog readers and those whose blogs I stalk as well!  I have several events tentatively scheduled for 2012 already.  Additional events will be forthcoming.  If you are part of a garden-related event and you’d like to have it listed here, just let me know and I’ll include a link.  Join me for the following events in 2012:

Utah Green Conference

The professional conference and tradeshow of the Utah Green Industry!

January 23-25, 2012  South Town Expo Center,

Advance registration and tickets required for classes.  Trade show is open to the public, $10.

If you’ve ever wanted to ‘learn at the feet of a Master’ then join me in the audience to listen to world-renowned Landscape Architect, Topher Delaney!  Professionals from many local businesses, educational institutions and even national nurseries will be there.  If you can’t attend the classes, at least visit the tradeshow where you can see what’s new for 2012, live and in bloom!  And, if ‘feet of a Master’ isn’t a prerequisite for you, make sure to join me for the discussion of the QWEL program- a new program designed to improve the waterwise landscape skills for local landscape contractors.  I will be a panelist for this session along with members of the USU Extension Service and UNLA.

2012 Salt Lake Tribune Spring Home and Garden Festival

March 8-11, 2012                South Town Expo Center

The annual home & garden show featuring beautiful garden exhibits and purveyors of all things gardening! This year’s show features Ahmed Hassan of HGTV’s series “Yard Crashers”.  Yard candy and eye candy all rolled into one package!

After working the show non-stop for the past 5 years, I am EXTREMELY excited to simply work the booth for the Garden then go home and recover!  No more private consulting means I’ll actually be spending this Spring working on my OWN yard for a change and enjoying the show without stress! Woot!

SNAP! Creativity Conference

April 19-21, 2012             Thanksgiving Point, Lehi, Utah

I am so excited for the SNAP! Creativity Conference! SNAP!  is geared to bloggers and DIY homeowners who enjoy home decor and DIY projects, especially if they like to blog about their exploits!  There are some amazing speakers whose work and blogs I’ve followed for years!  I can’t wait to be inspired by their talents- in person.  I will be serving as a panelist for one of the sessions and I’m a little embarrassed for my name to be included on the list given the extreme talents of the other participants.  The gals who run the SNAP! Conference have outdone themselves in ferreting out talented bloggers from all over the USA to ignite the creative spark in attendees!  This is such a great local opportunity for anyone wishing to attend. Don’t miss it!

In addition to amazing classes, we’ll be staying overnight in the model home village, b   bed & breakfast style!  It’s the Wisteria Lane of Bloggers!  If you have ever seen the gorgeously designed village with 14 amazing homes, you’d know why I’m so thrilled to go!

Conservation Garden Park Plant Sale:

Saturday, June 9, 2012
10:00 am- 3:00 pm
Conservation Garden Park Education Center
8275 South 1300 West
West Jordan, Utah

The first annual Plant Sale at Conservation Garden Park!  The Plant Sale will involve a number of quality local nurseries selling gorgeous plants that actually LIKE growing here in Utah!  Classes will be offered by local-favorite Barney Barnett of Willard Bay Gardens (perennials) and designer Lori Simonich of Inspired by Design (landscape design).  There is no charge for these classes but you will want to register in advance to ensure a seat- they’re both great teachers.

To register, follow this link: Plant Sale Classes

The highlight of the event is a class by author and plantswoman extrordinaire, Lauren Springer-Ogden!  Her original book “The Undaunted Garden” is one of my must-have gardening books.  I first heard her lecture in 1995 when I was fresh out of Landscape Architecture school and her philosophies have tremendously influenced mine.  I’m BEYOND THRILLED that we’re able to bring her here to Utah to inspire locals to GARDEN LOCAL!  Lauren is one of the originators of the entire “Waterwise Landscapes” concept and few can match her knowledge of plants and design.  Don’t miss it!

Private Residence- Club Members Only

I am honored to be asked to participate in this gardening series offered by the venerable gardens of Temple Square.  I once told Peter Lassig, the former Landscape Archtitect for Temple Square, that he had my dream job.  He assured me that he had HIS dream job too!  In any case, I’ll try to do justice to the topic of “Waterwise Along The Wasatch” and hope that the lovely surroundings can compensate for any boringness I might project!
