I have wanted to start a ‘Garden Club’ here locally for more than a decade. I had the great opportunity of providing staff support to the Sandy Garden Club many years ago when I was fresh out of college and working as a City employee in Community Development. My positive experiences with that Club sparked a great interest in creating a club in my neighborhood when the time was right. Then there were 3 kids in 3 years. And trying to…

Mt. Olympus Community Garden Dedication
Posted on May 8, 2012Over the last year an a half I’ve been privileged to be involved with the design and implementation of Salt Lake County’s newest community garden, Mt. Olympus Community Gardens in Holladay. My involvement began by meeting with the group to discuss the feasibility of the Garden and to create a basic design plan for the for the Garden layout. A wonderful County Councilwoman, Jani Iwamoto, initiated the project to solve two problems- to make use of a weedy patch of…
After a totally wild weekend, I am back from the SNAP! Creativity Conference. What an exhausting but wonderful couple of days! I have promised to get a post up about terrarium basics and will try and make that happen tomorrow. Between the SNAP! Conference, a local political convention over the weekend (at which my friend, Mia, was nominated to be the Republican candidate for US Congress), and Earth Day Activities which were celebrated Monday, I’ve been a little overwhelmed! I’ll…
Succulent Pallet Table
Posted on April 1, 2012Whew! The last week was a whirlwind! I actually LOVE the Home & Garden Show. I’m an extrovert so talking to hundreds of people about plants etc. is a lot of fun for me! This is the first year in the last five that I am not designing privately and thus was not trolling for clients at the show- I just got to enjoy it with no stress attached! I found that there just was not enough time to be…
Salt Lake Tribune Home & Garden Show Eye Candy
Posted on March 17, 2012And this time I don’t mean me with Ahmed! The show was BACK this year with huge crowds and great ideas. One change was that there were more small landscapes by landscapers I haven’t seen at the show before. It was great to see how much interest they could pack into some pretty tight spaces! They set up the landscaper dream gardens a little differently this year and I liked the change. Instead of a hodge podge, they created an overall…
I have a ton to write about as the Spring Home & Garden show has just wrapped up and I have a bunch of projects to share! However, it’s late and so tonight I’m just going to share my highlight of the show- Ahmed! I will just say for the record than in real life the man is dripping with charisma and his muscled chest ain’t too bad either! Oh- wait? Was I supposed to be listening to some sort…
Meeting Landscape Architect/ Artist, Topher Delaney!
Posted on January 29, 2012The 2012 Utah Nursery and Landscape Association Green Conference was held this past week and what a week it was! I’ll write more about the event and provide some great photos but, for today, I want to talk about the most significant moment for me at the conference- meeting landscape legend, Topher Delaney. Topher Delaney’s work is as unique as her name. She pulls off designs and installations that most of us would never even attempt to get away with!…
Plantation Shutter Planter Tutorial
Posted on September 6, 2011Otherwise known as a ‘Plant’ation Privacy Screen. Like many of you, I saw the original idea for this project in Sunset Magazine, though I am sure the designer who created it was not the first to do this, she certainly did it up beautiful! The Sunset Magazine version featured a gorgeous project completed by San Francisco area floral designer, Baylor Chapman of LilaB Designs. The magazine gave a little information on how the shutters were constructed and it sounded pretty…
The 1st annual Gala Fundraiser event was held on Saturday night for Conservation Garden Park and it seems to have been quite a successful event. I am rather relieved it’s over as I participated in several capacities and I’m plum wore out! Through my ‘regular gig’, I helped plan and manage the event. Through my design business, I donated several pieces of garden art, including a ‘coffee table planter’. The seed for the table was planted by Julie Rader of…
Succulent Living Wreaths
Posted on August 6, 2011I am very fortunate to work for an awesome garden where they let me explore all kinds of interesting planting ideas. We have our very first fundraising gala event coming up in a few weeks and I’ve been hard at work creating some cool garden art pieces for the auction (which I’ll share in a future post). I’ve been too busy DOING to be blogging but I hope there are still a few readers out there! The theme of our…
